Students in 5th though 8th grades have the opportunity to join a grade level choir during the school day at HMS. Currently, we have the 5th grade Beginning Choir, the 6th grade Concert Choir, and the 7th/8th grade Crimson Choir.

Each grade level rehearses during a separate period of the day. Students are exposed to a wide variety of choral music from a variety of cultures and in many languages. These choirs perform in two concerts per year (winter and spring to showcase their talent and hard work.

We rehearse to make each individual a better person and better member of the team.

Stallion Singers

This advanced group of 30 students rehearses after school twice a week and sings a variety of choral repertoire: madrigals, spirituals, rhythmically ethnic pieces, and in many different languages! This ensemble requires a placement audition in the first few weeks of school. The Stallion Singers also perform at our two annual concerts.

Junior Jazz

Rehearsing only once a week after school, this is the top performing ensemble at HMS. They sing contemporary, musical theatre, oldies, and many other genres of music – much of it is a cappella! (Think Pentatonix Junior!) Junior Jazz performs at many community events throughout the year and has been asked to sing with the Wheeling Symphony, the national anthem for the Wheeling Nailors, and they have been featured at the annual SHS Jazz Fest. This ensemble is by audition only. Auditions for this elite ensemble occur in May for the following school year.

HMS Drama Club

This is the place to be!  Drama Club currently has well over 120 student members! With one annual musical, a one-act play, and a summer production combined with the high school drama club, this family is always hard at work! There are multiple roles to fill in our theatre! Actors, “techies,” light crew, sound crew, fly crew, publicity crew, props crew, running crew, stage management, front of house, director assistantship, etc. There is a home for every student. Our past productions include Willy Wonka, Jr., Beauty and the Beast, Jr., Seussical, Jr., and The Little Mermaid, Jr. Stay tuned for further updates about our Touch of Class summer production and next year's fall musical!

Junior Thespians

After dedicating a specific number of hours to our drama club, a student can apply to be inducted into the International Junior Thespian Society. After chartering our troupe in May 2016, we inducted 18 members.
Each spring, those students who have accumulated enough hours apply for membership and are inducted at the end of the year for the following school year.
Junior Thespians receive a point boost when beginning to accumulate points/hours at the high school level by being a Junior Thespian. Also, Junior Thespians have opportunities to attend professional theatrical productions in Pittsburgh or the surrounding area each year. They also receive special volunteer opportunities for some high school theatre events and chances for collaboration with high school Thespians.
